Information security is a
growing concern among various organizations and companies worldwide. The
purpose of this study is to empirically examine the relationship between
organizational characteristics and information security knowledge in service
sector.
This paper seeks to
present a detailed analysis conducted on various service sector organizations
in Sri Lanka to clarify the relationship between identified organizational
characteristics and information security knowledge in service sector organizations
by having a deep insight into how the organizational characteristics and its
dimensions, culture, top management support, reward and incentive, and
organization structure as knowledge management success factor affect on
information security knowledge among management in Sri Lankan service
organizations.
This research also aims
to explore and evaluate the current existing level of information security in Sri
Lankan service organizations and the main features of information security of
Sri Lankan service organizational context. This study uses quantitative
approach and convenience sampling. An empirical survey is conducted using a
structured self-administered questionnaire to test the theoretical model and
hypotheses in this study. A total of 84 valid questionnaires are collected and
processed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences, version 16.
The data collected
through this research will help service sector organizations in planning,
training, and exploitation of information security knowledge management. Data
gathered from the survey questionnaires were then analyzed using the
correlation analyses.
The results of this study
revealed that organizational characteristics made significant positive effects.
The results were in-line and consistent with previous studies on knowledge
management development. The study has connected the literature gaps by
providing empirical evidence on the effects of knowledge management success
factors on information security knowledge management.
The paper provides implications
for both research and practice. From a practical standpoint, managers and
practitioners alike stand to gain from the findings of this study. The results
of the paper enable them to better understand and evaluate information security
knowledge management and to champion information security for business success
in Sri Lankan organizations.
